The answer to the previous question is in the comments for that question.  Feel free to discuss.

Here’s today’s question…

I received a USB credit-card-looking device in the mail, plugged it into my mac (in my test environment of course) and it opened up a web browser and sent me to a promotion site. The question is, by what means did it do this (and how could it do it consistently on multiple platforms with different web browsers)? I’m looking for a general answer of the functionality, not specific instructions.

As always, tell a nerd working behind the counter the correct answer and receive a free 450mL beverage.

My wild guess they edited the autorun.inf file stored on the USB.

Was it in the autorun.inf file?

Since there’s only today left to get this question, I will give you a hint…no autorun at all (also, couldn’t have been autorun because I specified mac).

I am not technical but I would say that it points to a general web browser and opens as if you were putting in an IP address

Hmm…no idea. I don’t have much experience with a Mac. :/ I feel like the answer if much simpler than I am making it out to be.
